AIOps platform provider Riverbed announced today the general availability of Riverbed Smart OTel (OpenTelemetry), which the company said delivers the right data at the right time for better insights and decision making. Available as part of the Riverbed Platform, Smart OTel supports Riverbed Aternity and Network Observability solutions, as well as third-party applications.
Wth the growing complexity of applications in today’s world, organizations struggle to find critical insights that are buried beneath fragmented data. Teams using Open Telemetry today are building custom dashboard solutions that bring in data from multiple sources.
Unlike traditional OpenTelemetry solutions, Smart OTel leverages platform-level data collection for smarter analytics, automation and troubleshooting. According to the company’s announcement, “With Smart OTel, once an event or alert is triggered, the patented Riverbed Data Store surfaces only pertinent data required for that specific event or business use case, and exports that data to any standard OTel collector.” Riverbed AI and AI automations can be leveraged to filter and process data before export, including any third-party data via OTel, the company said.
“Customers are tired of getting massive data streams of raw telemetry, where it’s incumbent upon them to try to sort through the clutter and figure out what happened,” Richard Tworek, CTO, Riverbed Technology, said in the announcement. “Riverbed has taken a different and game-changing approach to OpenTelemetry with our Smart OTel solution. Rather than collecting an overwhelming amount of raw data, Smart OTel works at the Platform level, leveraging the Riverbed Data Store, AI, and automation to give IT teams precisely the right data at the right time using the OTel open standard, delivered to the tool of their choice. This approach enables organizations to fix business-critical issues fast.”
Smart OTel is available as a feature in Riverbed IQ, and is part of the Riverbed Platform, which was launched in May 2024 as an open, AI-powered platform, designed to optimize digital experiences and improve IT operations, the company said.
