In order to provide a more cost effective method for downloading satellite data, AWS has launched AWS Ground Station. AWS Ground Station allows customers to control satellites and download data from them into AWS Global Infrastructure Regions using a managed network of ground station antennas, the company explained.
According to AWS, satellites are being used more and more by businesses, but in order to communicate with them, customers need to build ground antennas, which could be a significant undertaking for them. With AWS Ground Station, customers are charged on a per-minute basis for how much they have used.
