Oracle announced its Enterprise Manager 13c release 5 which includes big improvements in monitoring and managing automation for Oracle environments, according to the company.
The new release adds fleet monitoring, management and data movement across the entire IT estate, whether that’s on premise or in the cloud. EM Hybrid Database as a Service now supports self-service provisioning across on-premises and OCI.
Database Migration Workbench provides a complete platform to enable DBAs to migrate databases. After a migration it uses the SQL Performance Analyzer feature to determine whether the workload on the migrated platform will perform well. OCI bridge is also included as a connection from EM to Oracle Cloud to copy data from the EM repository and target it to the designated OCI object store.
New features for ops Automation include Smart Event Compression to automatically group multiple events into a single incident and Dynamic Runbooks to speed up incident resolution. The new Automatic Workload Analysis feature enables EM to compare the current database performance with the baseline workload and any divergence from the baseline is highlighted on the database home page.
Also, EM Warehouse provides the complete extraction of EM data and uses the OCI bridge to put it in Autonomous Data Warehouse running on OCI. The EM Compliance Framework was enhanced to include compliance standards for CIS for Oracle Database 19c.
The extensibility of Enterprise Manager was also improved by adding the ability to use REST APIs for executing management operations in EM. The new EM Federation provides a single pane-of-glass for monitoring and incident management across all EM sites.
“EM has been a companion for the Oracle Database, middle-tier and applications for over 20 years. As Oracle Database has evolved and improved over that time, EM has kept pace, with features that enable DBAs to take advantage of those advancements and help manage growing environments in a scalable fashion,” Mughees Minhas, the product management vice president for enterprise and cloud manageability at Oracle, wrote in a blog post that contains additional details about all of the new features in this release.
