Vector is an open-source, end-to-end observability data pipeline that works to give users control over their own observability data by allowing them to collect, transform, and route their logs, metrics, and traces to any vendor.
According to the GitHub page, this tool also works towards cost reduction, novel data enrichment, and data security where the user needs it.
Vector operates on a few core principles, including:
- Offering users heightened reliability
- End-to-end deployments as an agent or aggregator
- Unified logs, metrics, and traces (coming soon) so that all of the users’ data can be stored in one tool
The GitHub page said that with Vector, organizations are enabled to reduce the cost of their observability, transition vendors without disrupting any workflows, enhance data quality and insights, consolidate agents and reduce agent fatigue, and improve observability as a whole.
