Mirantis, a Kubernetes-based infrastructure provider, has announced the release of version 1.0 of its open-source project k0smotron, which is a tool for managing Kubernetes control planes.
K0smotron 1.0 adds support for Cluster API for remote machines that are connected via SSH. Cluster API is a Kubernetes sub-project that provides declarative APIs for simplifying provisioning, upgrading, and operation of many Kubernetes clusters.
According to Mirantis, this new support enables k0smotron to deploy k3s and MicroK8s, providing operators a greater amount of choice.
Integration of the Cluster API with a new k0smotron AutoPilot feature also enables fully-automated cluster updates.
Another highlight is that operators will now be able to install k0smotron through the Cluster API’s clustrctl command.
Additionally, k0smotron now offers support for the ClusterClass feature in the Cluster API, which makes configurations reusable, reducing the amount of code that needs to be written.
And finally, high availability has also been improved in this release because etcd can now scale independently in different Kubernetes pods.
“K0smotron makes it easier for operators to deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters, regardless of infrastructure,” said Miska Kaipiainen, vice president of engineering, strategy and open source software at Mirantis. “This represents a level of Kubernetes management for large-scale deployments that delivers an unparalleled combination of flexibility and control for users.”
