Using Red Hat OpenShift is about to get easier, because Red Hat is launching the developer preview of OpenShift Lightspeed, a generative AI assistant for the platform.

Lightspeed can answer users’ questions about OpenShift, assist with troubleshooting, and can offer insights on building, deploying, and managing hybrid cloud applications.

For instance, a user could ask how to scale a pod automatically and Lightspeed will respond with a YAML file that can be used to do that.

In their prompts, users can attach objects, such as YAML files, logs, or events, to ask specific questions about them. Lightspeed can’t directly interrogate the cluster, but will work to help users understand cluster resources, such as the number of pods running in a namespace.

Lightspeed’s responses also include links to documentation so that users can dive in deeper if they want to.

OpenShift Lightspeed was first announced at the Red Hat Summit in May, following it having been incorporated into Ansible since the end of last year.

“Red Hat Lightspeed puts AI to work, instantly, enabling the rapid acquisition of new skills while scaling existing expertise, from building the foundation of the hybrid cloud with Red Hat Enterprise Linux to bringing cloud-native applications to life with Red Hat OpenShift to managing distributed environments with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform,” Ashesh Badani, senior vice president and chief product officer at Red Hat, said at the time.
