Malwarebytes has announced the introduction of a new feature that stops applications from launching into its endpoint security solution ThreatDown.
The new feature, called Application Block, prevents unauthorized, unwanted, or malicious apps from launching. IT teams can specify particular apps that they don’t want opened either, such as apps they deem to hinder productivity.
According to Malwarebytes, this new feature will help reduce the attack surface of organizations, thus reducing the risk of fines related to data breaches. It also offers simplified reporting and notifications.
Application Block can be managed directly within the ThreatDown console, enabling IT teams to add additional protection to their organization without adding additional operational burden.
“Today’s sophisticated cyber criminals are looking at legitimate applications as vehicles for malware,” said Marcin Kleczynski, founder and CEO of Malwarebytes. “By offering Application Block for free, we’re giving customers another crucial preventative layer to fortify their cybersecurity defenses and reduce avenues for threats.”
